Prof David McCormack is a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon and a National Lead for Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand. He previously served as the Clinical Director and Head of Department of Waikato Cardiothoracic Unit as well as Associate Chief Medical Officer of Waikato DHB. David is also a Professor at Te Huataki Waiora School of Health – University of Waikato and an Associate Professor of Surgery at The University of Auckland with a clinical interest and expertise in aortic surgery. He is skilled in the management of ischaemic heart disease and heart valve surgery. Active in the generation and utilisation of technology to advance surgical practice, healthcare delivery, clinical leadership and innovative research.

Specialist Training
Mr Macemon undertook specialist training in General Surgery at Christchurch, Southern Cross Christchurch, Southland, Dunedin, Rotorua, and Palmerston North Hospitals. He then went on to complete specialist training in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Dunedin, Christchurch, St George’s, Waikato, and Auckland Hospitals in New Zealand, and Westmead Hospital and The Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children in Sydney, Australia. He subsequently undertook extensive post fellowship training at Waikato Hospital.
