Braemar Hospital again offers free surgery for children to the value of $50,000.
GPs are being asked to nominate children for free surgery at Braemar Hospital. For the third time Braemar Hospital
is offering surgery free of charge to children. In 2008 a total of 15 children received much needed surgery. In 2010 this number increased to 17 children.
In 2011 we are very pleased to be able to again make this offer to GPs and their young patients who would otherwise not receive their surgery in a timely manner.
GPs are asked to nominate patients for consideration. GPs will be aware of patients who are stuck on the public hospital waiting lists and who are unlikely to receive surgery for some time.
On this occasion Braemar Hospital is opening up the offer to any Specialty with the only considerations being:
– Your patient must be a resident in the Waikato, Coromandel, Lakes or South Auckland region
– They must be on a public hospital waiting list
– They are unlikely to receive treatment within the near future
– They are under 16 years of age
– They do not have health insurance cover
– You must refer your patient to a Specialist working at Braemar Hospital
All submissions meeting the above will be considered up to the point where the $50,000 has been spent. Your submission should explain why you believe that your patient should receive the surgery. No dollar value per procedure is being set. One procedure worth $50,000 or ten worth $5,000 each will be considered.
The submissions will be judged by Dr John Currie, Chair of our Clinical Committee and Dr Greg Spark, Specialist Paediatric Anaesthetist.
Their decision will be fi nal and no correspondence will be entered into. Applications should be sent to:
